There are many ways to achieve exceptional results at work, but one of the main things we need to do is build up our critical people skills.  And one of the best skills we can develop as leaders is the capacity to hold others accountable, while also expressing empathy — holding ourselves and others to a high standard without burning any relationship bridges.  This is not easy, especially in the current work world with generational differences, stress over racial disparities, and increasingly low tolerance for mistakes.  When errors happen, some may want to “teach them a lesson,” flexing rank-muscles or express our disappointment.  But all these reactions will not get us the results we want. A proven method to secure accountability — especially when things are stressful or mistakes have been made — is to lead with empathy.   But how can we do that, when we have a mixture of feelings inside?

IQC — in partnership with the Performance Excellence Network and the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence — is pleased to host a special online workshop: “Want Accountability? Start with Empathy: Proven Strategies for Managers, Supervisors and Stressed Leaders.”  The session is Wednesday, February 4 from 8:30-12:00 and will be facilitated by Tom Esch.

This engaging presentation will cover the “how to” of some of the most powerful work leaders will ever do: hold others to a high standard of performance excellence while maintaining positive relational connections.

    Take Aways:

    • Understanding why accountability is so challenging, especially now
    • Three proven methods for holding others accountable
    • How to better understand and manage the feelings that won’t motivate others
    • Practical ways to grow your capacity to express empathy
    • Simple ways to build trust within your work culture

The biggest driver of organizational excellence is effective leadership.  So as we wind down the year and look forward to a productive, successful 2026, invest in yourself and your team and consider attending this powerful workshop.

For decades, organizations have mastered the art of excellence — eliminating waste, reducing variation, and driving reliability through Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality systems. But what happens when those systems work so well that there’s little left to optimize?

IQC — in partnership with PEN , WCPE, and GRQC— is pleased to host an online webinar discussion on Thursday, February 5: “From Continuous Improvement to Continuous Reinvention: The Next Frontier of Performance Excellence.” The discussion will feature Erez Tsalik of Systematic Inventive Thinking, Ltd. (SIT).

In this thought-provoking session, Erez introduces a disciplined approach to creativity that begins where traditional performance excellence leaves off. Drawing on SIT’s proven methodology — used by leading companies worldwide — Erez challenges participants to rethink how innovation can thrive within constraints, not by breaking the rules, but by re-imagining them.

With today’s increasing challenges (and opportunities), come explore systematic ways to solve problems, expand organizational creativity, and promote systematic innovation in your operations.

This session is Thursday, February 5 from 8:00-9:00 CT (optional speed networking and mingling 7:45-8:00), using Zoom MEETING. Grab your coffee and breakfast, and join us for a rich discussion. Free for PEN/WCPE/IQC members; $20 for non-members.

Dr. Gilles Benoit is a powerhouse innovator—a senior scientist at 3M with more than 70 patents to his name and a career defined by breakthrough thinking. His work has sparked game-changing advances, from helping develop the optical fibers used in the first non-invasive lung cancer surgery to creating cutting-edge display technologies for global giants like Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft. Armed with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT, Gilles has built a reputation for tackling complex, worldwide challenges with precision, creativity, and advanced technology. He’s led teams of over 120 data scientists, turning AI and machine learning into practical, high-value solutions that deliver real financial impact—not just buzzwords. A leading voice in cutting through the noise of AI hype, Gilles shows leaders what actually works. His pilot projects expose why so many AI tools fall short—and how a groundbreaking new method, Deep Causal Learning (DCL), can transform decision-making. Gilles helps leaders cut through confusion, make smarter and more accurate decisions, and build AI-ready cultures that are prepared for the future—not overwhelmed by it. When it comes to unlocking real-world value from AI, Gilles doesn’t follow the trend. He sets the standard.
