Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence

The Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence (IRPE) is Iowa’s National Baldrige-based process designed to recognize role model organizations in all industries.  The purpose of IRPE is to recognize organizations that are on the journey of excellence and the rigorous organizational assessment based on the Baldrige criteria.

IRPE Tiers

Tier 1 – Explorer

Application Process:  Complete Organization Profile Template
What’s included:

  • Facilitated Gallery Walk
  • Feedback Report
  • 1 Examiner Training Fee waived
  • Recognition
  • Can be submitted any time during the year

Tier 2 – Discoverer

Application Process: Organization Profile and Basic Requirements via provided template
What’s included:

  • Feedback report
  • Consultative Site Visit (1 day)
  • 1 Examiner Training Fee Waived
  • Recognition
  • Can be submitted any time during the year

Tier 3 – Navigator

Application Process: Organizational Profile and Overall Requirements via provided template
What’s included:

  • Feedback report
  • Consultative or Real Site Visit (1-3 days)
  • 2 Examiners Training Fee Waived
  • Recognition based on points
  • Can be submitted any time during the year

Tier 4 – Trail Guide

Application Process: Full Application modeled after National Baldrige Program

  • Feedback report
  • Site Visit
  • 2 Examiners Training Fee Waived
  • Recognition based on points

Training Application – Trail Blazer

Application Process: Submit application used for National Baldrige or draft application to keep the organization fresh and involved.
What’s included:

  • Feedback report
  • 1 Examiner Training Fee Waived

Eligibility

  • The applicant must have employees in Iowa.
  • The applicant must have been located in Iowa for at least one year.
  • Ownership outside of Iowa does not restrict eligibility for the IRPE.
  • Submission of a Baldrige application in the same year does not restrict eligibility for the IRPE.
  • Organizations achieving IRPE Gold Level Recognition are ineligible to receive an award in the next three years. These organizations may, however submit an application to receive a feedback report as part of their continuing journey toward performance excellence.
  • Sub-units, buildings and departments may apply (e.g. High School only, Orthopedic Clinic, West Des Moines location only).

Key Dates

  • Tier 4 eligibility due: July 10
  • Examiner Applications due: August 21
  • Tier 4 applications due: September 4
  • Examiner Training: September 9-10  (new examiners must attend 2 days, returning 1 day)
  • Consensus Week: October 5-8
  • Site Visits: October 12-November 20
