Gemba means the place where real actions take place. It usually refers to the place where manufacturing activities are conducted in a factory as well as the place where employees have direct contact with customers in the service sectors. Gemba is a simple concept that leaders, managers, and supervisors can use to support continuous improvement by making focused visits to the workplace every day to understand the full impact of the system, gathering data from all sources. Unlike focus groups and surveys, Gemba visits are not scripted or bound by what we want to ask.
On May 30, The Iowa Quality Center is offering the opportunity for you to learn Gemba from lean master, and author, Masaaki Imai. After taking your own Gemba tour of Firestone Agricultural Tire in Des Moines, Mr. Imai will present his insights and improvement approaches. Make sure you don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime experience.
