| Two Million Minutes Special Presentation |
Regardless of nationality, as soon as a student completes the 8th grade, the clock starts ticking. From that very moment the child has approximately Two Million Minutes until high school graduation. How a student spends their Two Million Minutes – in class, at home studying, playing sports, working, sleeping, socializing, or just goofing off – will affect their economic prospects for the rest of their lives. How do most American high school students spend this time? This film takes a deeper look at how the three superpowers of the 21st Century – China, India, and the United States – are preparing their students for the future. As we follow two students – a boy and a girl – from each of these countries, we compose a global snapshot of education, from the viewpoint of kids preparing for their future. |

| Systems Thinking - What To Do When The Slack Is Gone |
“Success changes the game – are you prepared to embrace the rules of the new game?” You’ve likely experienced it – implemented continuous improvement efforts yield impressive immediate results but before long you’re doubling your efforts to squeeze out even small gains, or worse yet, to just maintain previous gains. In systems thinking this is called, “taking the slack out of the system.” This meeting will help attendees understand the five forces that work to actively convert success to failure and explores how “taking the slack out” via continuous improvement changes the “game” we play and how systems thinking methodology offers one road to truly breakthrough organizations. |

No matter what type of organization you work for, you are (or should be) concerned about how you manage your quality. Plan now to join the August network meeting that will use the Knowledge Café to explore the ideas of the authors of The Elusive Lean Enterprise which support the 14 ways to institutionalize Lean within an organization. I am certain you would agree that any Quality Management system can be assessed using these same rules with a little word-smithing. What is a Knowledge Café? It is a quick (hour long) way to gathering a lot of information that can be leveraged within your organization. Take-aways from the session will include a method to assess your current quality management system and a quick new method for gathering feedback. Take this opportunity to invite a friend….Hope to see you there! |
